Four cohorts through our APM Fast Track Programme at United Utilities, plus bespoke training that turned senior PMs into the company's own Licence to Operate assessors.
The Brief
A tough audience to win over
The first challenge at United Utilities wasn't training. It was buy-in. Getting the PM community on board with the APM's Registered Project Professional standard (now Chartered Project Professional) was a hard sell.
Our PM community briefings broke that down. Staff got to engage with the process, understand what was being asked of them, and decide whether to put themselves forward for an application. From there we ran the Academy's Fast Track Programme across four cohorts.

The Outcome
A 90% pass rate, plus a function United Utilities now runs for itself
The headline number is a 90%+ pass rate across four cohorts. The longer-term outcome matters more. United Utilities runs its own internal accreditation function and can carry out robust competence-based assessments without leaning on external trainers for every step.
The community started the work needing convincing. They finished it running their own accreditation regime.
